Mineral (physical) filters: zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. These are the only two the FDA currently recognizes in this category. They sit on the skin surface and both scatter and absorb UV radiation.

No regulatory body has concluded that chemical sunscreen filters are unsafe, and every major dermatology organization still recommends daily sunscreen use of either kind.
